Compliments of the New Year from CoJ

JOBURG – Ensuring service delivery for all is the mayor's goal for 2022.

Hopes of a golden year for the residents and businesses of the City of Gold.

The year 2022 is finally here and the Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Dr Mpho Phalatse, is thrilled to have made it through the festive season to the beginning of yet another year. Going into the New Year, she hopes that all residents will be a part of the solution as they look to rebuild the City.

She expressed, “The past two years have been a challenging time for our City and 2022 presents us with an opportunity to turn things around. As government we will create an enabling environment for economic recovery so that those who lost their livelihoods in 2020 and 2021 can have hope for a better life.”
Phalatse added that it is the collective responsibility of government, residents and businesses to seek and make use of the opportunities that will come with a working city.

Throughout the festive season, the City and its departments have been hard at work to ensure that they can hit the New Year running and this has influenced their goals for this year. Phalatse stated, “My goals for 2022 is to serve as mayor for all residents of Johannesburg by tackling key service delivery shortcomings. These include starting to eradicate the backlog of City Power’s ageing and broken-down infrastructure so that residents will start experiencing less unplanned outages. The same applies to ageing and broken-down water infrastructure, so we can clamp down on leaks and outages. I also want to tackle the City’s challenged billing system.”

She stated that for far too long residents of the City have received incorrect and bloated bills while revenue collection is not being done on those that refuse to pay. With revenue collection being the life-blood of service delivery, without it, basic service cannot be delivered to residents.

As the City continues to sharpen their tools to get this done, Phalatse is also looking forward to leading good governance that will actively tackle all service delivery shortcomings and backlogs in the City. “By the time 2022 comes to a close, I want to be able to reflect and show residents the remarkable changes we have made and the improvements achieved in basic service delivery.”
Phalatse wishes all in Johannesburg a prosperous 2022 and hopes all get to achieve the goals they have set out for themselves and hopes the City can help these dreams and goals come alive.
