Ward 96 councillor hosts a series of engagements with different communities

RIVERSIDE– Maswazi said issues such as crime, youth development, and electrification of informal settlements, and the fight against potholes were some of the issues topping his list.

The newly-elected councillor in Ward 96 Rufus Maswazi said he recently held a series of engagements with residents to get a sense of what the pressing issues in the suburbs were.

Maswazi said issues such as crime, youth development, electrification of informal settlements and potholes were some of the issues topping the list.

“I have spent the past two months engaging with different communities of Ward 96. These engagements helped me with a clear understanding of and dynamics of this ward. [I have] been inundated with calls from members of the community who had different problems that needed to be resolved,” he said.

He said areas such as Riverside View which was made up of RDP and bond house developments was one of those that needed attention.

“Riverside View community has literally nothing when it comes to government service. This community is too big and needs services like schools clinics, and recreation facilities. It also needs a mobile or satellite police station in order for us to curb crime in the area.”

He said during his term of office, he would work closely with the provincial government, City of Johannesburg and community-based organisations to bring real change to the area.

“I will work closely with relevant municipal and provincial government departments and institutions to ensure that issues like potholes in the ward are attended to. I also want to see all three informal settlements electrified. In areas like Riverside View, there are no sport facilities, no public school and getting these facilities built in the area will be a top priority for my office.”

He urged residents to report all service delivery issues to his office.
