MMC Michael Sun hopes the City’s interventions will bring an end to water and power outages in Fourways
FOURWAYS – Sun said a number of interventions have been introduced to deal with the issue of water outages and power infrastructure vandalism.
The MMC for the Environment Services and Infrastructure Department Michael Sun, along with greater Fourways councillors, City Power and Johannesburg Water management, attended a public meeting in Ward 94 to address issues of constant water and power outages.
Dozens of residents from different parts of Fourways come out in their numbers to get answers from municipal authorities.
Speaking at the meeting held at Indaba Hotel on March 22, Sun told residents that ageing water infrastructure was the main reason behind constant pipe bursts in and around Fourways.

He said a number of interventions have been introduced to deal with the issue of water outages and power infrastructure vandalism.
“A number of water pipe replacement projects are currently underway in different parts of Fourways. Some of the City’s water and electricity infrastructure is more than 100 years old. We are currently sitting at a R26-billion infrastructure backlog but we are working around the clock to replace this aged infrastructure,” Sun said.
Acting chief executive officer at City Power, Tshifularo Mashava said theft and vandalism were the main challenges faced by the utility. “We are working hard with our security department to safeguard our infrastructure. Some of our substations are old and have passed their life span. We are also working on skills development within the utility to avoid reliance on contractors,” she said.
