Mozambican national arrested at Lanseria Airport

The suspect was arrested after an officer noticed irregularities on his permit.

Lanseria Border Police detained a Mozambican citizen at Lanseria Airport after he was discovered in possession of a fake passport on May 4.

A police officer from the Laseria Border Police who was profiling people contracted to work at the airport allegedly found irregularities on one of the work permits.

The officer contacted the immigration office to confirm the suspect’s passport validity. Officials at the immigration office confirmed that they did not have the suspect’s information on their systems.

The suspect was detained for violating Section 49 of the Immigration Act, Act 13 of 2002, and was charged with possession of a forged travel document and being an illegal immigrant.

According to Captain Tinyiko Mathebula of Diepsloot Police Station, the suspect was scheduled to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on May 5.
