Fourways alumni enjoy inaugural Founders Day Assembly

A number of past learners visited Fourways High School to be a part of the inaugural Founders Day Assembly.

Former Fourways High School attendees joined current learners in a Founders Day Assembly to officially reunite alumni on May 5.

Some of the school’s first matriculants, from when the school opened in 1988, also attended. The assembly began with a presentation from principal Andrew Holliday and deputy principal Garth Neilson on the history of the school.

Later, all alumni members enjoyed a hot breakfast while catching up with former teachers and classmates.
Alumni coordinator at the school Kerry Ellis-Williams said the alumni association was founded last year June to bring matriculants and past learners together to network.
“We thought having a founders’ assembly will be great to bring back the alumni to the ‘home of legends’, especially for those who haven’t been able to be here because of Covid. We also wanted to remind the current learners what the school was once before,” she said.

“While it is our first event ever, I was really excited to see as many people as we did.”
Ellis-Williams mentioned said there are plans to have events for the alumni on an annual basis, and that there will be more alumni learners present at the Fourways vs Bryanston derby day on May 6 and 7.

“We are looking towards later in the year to have reunions, especially for those in the last few years who have missed it because of Covid, maybe also have sports fixtures with the alumni players and staff. So, there may be a lot more happening later this year,” she concluded.
