K73 road construction underway

The construction of the road started last year October.

The construction of the K73 road started last year October and is scheduled to take 22 months to be completed.

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport project has created many business opportunities and employment and has involved more than 20 SMMEs. Annette Deppe, Ward 132 councillor said the project had employed more than 120 people to date and aimed to employ 250 people as the project progresses.

The road is being built to help relieve the traffic at peak hour in that area. “These roads are totally over capacitated by far more than 50% and they can’t cope with traffic at peak hour, and this is one of the reasons why they are building this road,” said Deppe.

The project includes the construction of a new bridge and K73 and Jubie Road intersection for access to Barbeque Downs.

“The residents of Barbeque Downs are very happy that they are going to have one entrance.”

The project is located not too far from the Kyalami racetrack and Kyalami Corner shopping centre.
