My Pet and Me: Nereece Parasuraman and Kiko
The Fourways Review caught up with a local pet owner who has taken a young corgi to her home for companionship for the last two weeks.
How a bundle of fluff has started conversations with people in public is the story in development by a local pet owner.
Originally hailing from Durban, Nereece Parasuraman recently moved to Johannesburg and was on the hunt for a companion that will keep her company during the days when she was studying at home. Her search led her to seven-week-old corgi, Kiko. “I just started messaging people and eventually one person got back to me that they know someone who has corgis since other people didn’t, and that was how I got Kiko,” she said.
“It’s an amazing story because if I had not messaged one person and trust them to message the next person, I would have not have him.”
Parasuraman has had Kiko for two weeks, and he has already developed a personality when interacting with other people. “He is friendly, very happy and he always wants to play – especially in the morning to a point where he will cry for you to play with him. Because my brother wakes up for work, he’ll just go after him.”
Aside from playing all the time, Kiko enjoys eating biltong for dogs and meeting new people. According to Parasuraman, he was in his happy place at a house-warming party where all attendees were giving him all the love and attention he could ever ask for.
Kiko is soon set to take a journey to Durban to meet Parasuraman’s other dogs and have two different experiences on life at such a young age. “I think what makes Kiko unique is that he gets to experience two different worlds: one where he is running free with other dogs in a big garden, and here in Johannesburg where he experiences dog parks.
“What also makes him unique is his colour. When I first got him, his caretaker said this is the first time she’s seen a corgi with black and white with more white on the head. You’d always look for some brown, and he has some on him but he has a lot of black and white on him.”
