City officials in Region A embark on a walkabout to get to the truth

Region A Director Abigail Ndlovu took the lead in a recent walkabout in the ward accompanied by City of Joburg officials after reporting discrepancies were picked up. Ndlovu says they decided to visit all the wards in the region after realising that official reports were contradicting the reality of life for residents. “We’ve seen that some of the reports we received were contradicting the realities on the ground. That is why we took the decision to bring different departments and entities of the City to walk the ground and deal with these issues.”

Ndlovu said City of Joburg officials in the region will no longer have the luxury of sitting in offices with air conditioners and heaters while communities on the ground suffer because of poor service delivery rendered to them.

Ndlovu was accompanied by officials from different entities in the City and local councillor Vino Reddy on the walkabout in Ward 93 to monitor and assess the state of service delivery in the ward.

The walkabout kicked off at Sunninghill Taxi Rank, moved to Chilli On Top Shopping Centre, Paulshof and ended in Clay Oven and Brecknock Informal Settlements. “We have identified a number of service delivery issues that need to be attended to as a matter of urgency. We’ve agreed that JRA will bring a grader to fix an open access road into Sunninghill Taxi Rank. We will also mobilise JMPD and other law-enforcement agencies to help with issues of illicit businesses and illegal trading around the area.”

She said this initiative will help both councillors and city officials identify service issues and deal with them accordingly.
