Dainfern College’s new executive head is ready for the new adventure at the school

A new executive head at Dainfern College is already enjoying the task of being at the forefront at the school.

JC Engelbrecht, whom one may know from our television screens who told us the weather of the night and next day, has now embarked on a new challenge in being executive head at Dainfern College.
While not being totally unfamiliar to the role, Engelbrecht said he has been enjoying his new role. Being in education is a concept not totally new to him as he has been in the field for about 30 years.
“I’m finding it incredibly enjoyable. It does have its challenges. I’ve been involved in education in various capacities such as teacher, head of department, as head of high school in the AdvTech Group. I was also executive head at Curro Aurora,” he said.

“You always look for new challenges, and an independent school like Dainfern College has its own ethos and type of structure. It’s a new and exciting challenge for me.”
In the time he has been at the school, he said he wants to improve and strengthen the focus on academics which is at the core business at the school, and also to include the incorporation of robotics and coding, especially, with the subject becoming a compulsory part of schooling in the curriculum.
“We’ve got a lot of potential and great teachers to drive that really. I think our offering in the cultural and sports field has been significant over the years, and I still think there is further room for improvement,” he told Fourways Review.

“We want to bring in the integration of technology, coding and robotics which is something I’m passionate about. We want to make sure we create and make spaces for learners where they can truly engage in the integration of technology.”
Outside of the campus walls and in his free time, Engelbrecht described himself as a family man who enjoys nature.
“I love being outdoors as I’m quite an adventurous individual. I’ve been up Mount Kilimanjaro and to a few base camps. Sport is something that is close to my heart as well, mountain biking is something I enjoy doing with my family or watching a good game of rugby and cricket,” he said.
Looking to the future, Engelbrecht said he wants to ensure the school is on the forefront of curriculum development and that there is a consistent improvement on the academic offering and having the best possible matric results.
