Dubai awaits U17 indoor cricket player from Beaulieu College
Michael Milliken from Beaulieu College is ready to make his country proud as he is called up to go to the U17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
The hard work of an indoor cricket player from Beaulieu College has paid off.
Michael Milliken was announced in the South African U17 indoor cricket side for the U17 World Cup to take place in September later this year.
With this being his first time representing his country, Michael said he has feelings of immense excitement upon hearing the news of making the national side. “I am feeling very honoured and proud to have been given this opportunity to represent my country at the World Cup in Dubai for the first time,” he said.

“I am also overwhelmingly excited to be playing the sport I love most. It has been seven years of hard and constant work getting better at the game and practising almost daily to finally achieve what I have now.”
Having played a lot of outdoor cricket, Michael got into the sport thanks to two individuals, his private coach Matthew Fleischer and the current CEO of Lions Cricket Jono Leaf-Wright who introduced him to the game in Grade 5.
Michael plays for several clubs including Varsity College, Sandton Sharks, Sharkies, Moafum and Bullet Bullets. He has also played provincial indoor cricket for Central Gauteng for the past seven years. Cricket is not the only sport that Michael has an interest in as he plays hockey and football as a goalkeeper for his school.
With the SA call-up a representation of his hard work over the past few years, Michael has a few aims and goals for the future. “Ultimately, I wish to continue representing my country indoors for years to come leading into a chapter after sport where I can become a physiotherapist to continue being involved with the travelling indoor cricket sides.”
The learner thanked his coaches, family and everyone who had been involved and supported him through this journey.
