Bethany Sivraman: Nurses Day recognises who we are as nurses, I think we are often judged, often under-appreciated and we often don’t see the importance of nurses, especially the ones working at the ICU. Me, I really and truly appreciate what my nurses do, I am really proud of what they do, and yes, we get a lot of criticism at times but it helps us grow, so I think it’s a special day for all of us to recognise how hard we work, the dedication we have and the effort we put in to save people live
Lifecare Fourways Hospital is proud to celebrate and recognise its dedicated nurses who are the cornerstone of quality healthcare. Nurses play a vital role in providing patient care, and their tireless efforts and dedication to their profession contribute significantly to the well-being of patients and the community.
The Fourways Review visited the Lifecare Fourways Hospital to cover International Nurses’ Day festivities and to observe how the hospital marked the internationally celebrated day, and it got a chance to chat with some nurses and asked them, why is Nurses’ Day important. This is what they had to say…
Carin Ferreira: The reason Nurses’ Day is important is that we need to acknowledge that our nurses are doing what they are doing, after Covid especially nurses come into the land roughly, they were the heroes and they are still heroes. Becoming a nurse, it’s a noble profession, it’s a gift to a nurse and it’s something to be proud of.Anele Mzaidume: Nurses Day is important because it’s important to value the contribution that has been contributed by the nurses, them being resilient, facing different challenges every day, they care for the patients and empathy that they give to those that require their attention. They encounter different kinds of situations which tend to be emotional and they have to separate their feelings and do their job.Thabiso Buthelezi: Nurses Day is important because we honour more nurses, and we honour ourselves as nurses and it shows all the kindness which is something that is trending nowadays and being a nurse of all trends working in ICU, working in maternity, bringing new lives to this world, it’s just a blessing.Kuni Eve van Brooks: It’s basically to celebrate all the nurses around the world, you know as nurses we don’t get the credit that we deserve and the recognition so International Nurses’ Day at least is that one day that everybody gets to celebrate us.Marthinus Grobler: I think it’s important because the nursing staff is the backbone of the health system in South Africa.
