Leeuwkop Correctional Services endurance walkers’ triumph at Tshwane Vasbyt Endurance Walk 2023 competition

The Leeuwkop Correctional Services participates in the Tshwane Vasbyt Walk 2023 competitions at the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Service.

The Leeuwkop Correctional Services officers participated in the Tshwane Vasbyt Walk 2023 competition at Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Service. The competition was not a walk in the park as the Leeuwkop staff experienced tough competition but managed to secure first and second positions in different categories.

The event took place over two days and had several interdepartmental participants, namely Correctional Services: SANDF, SAPS, Metropolitan Police and Social Clubs within the Tshwane Area. Four officials from the Leeuwkop Endurance Walk Club participated in the event and obtained five trophies within numerous categories, prizes won also encompassed gold, silver bronze medals and cash awards.

Some of the walkers had to contend with blisters and sore feet, but they soldiered on, determined to finish the race. The competition was not just about endurance and physical strength; it also required mental toughness. The Leeuwkop walkers had to stay focused and motivated throughout the race, keeping their eyes on the prize. They encouraged each other along the way, offering words of encouragement and support.

“Yes, it gets tough out there on the field, but we motivate and encourage each other in action as we keep walking, and when we realise then the time is gone, and we made it to the finish line. A huge thank you to the Leeuwkop Executive who grant us the time and opportunity to practice. Practice does perfectly in time. We are able to participate in longer and longer distances. Thank you to my fellow team members for showing up and doing what we did,” said participant Khomotso Mabitsela, who participated in the senior female category.

Leeuwkop Area Commissioner, Napo Moasi, applauded and shared her sentiments with the team as she congratulated them on their winnings and achievements. She stated that their consistency in participation and training in sports is noticed. Director Moasi is also a proud and active member of this sporting code.

“You make us proud. Having gone to different provinces, representing Leeuwkop and putting us on the map in sports. So far as the world map. Our officials are certainly thriving and achieving these days and your hard work is visible. Yes, it is challenging as we can all attest to it but completing the walking distances and on top of it winning all these prizes shows that it is possible. With discipline, phasing yourselves well and teamwork. It is indeed worth it”, she further added.

Leeuwkop walkers managed to secure several winning positions, much to the delight of their supporters. They had trained hard for this competition, and their hard work had paid off. The competition had been a true test of their endurance and determination, and they had emerged victorious.
