Fourways High matriculants end 2023 on bittersweet note

Fourways High School hosted a farewell function for the Class of 2023.

Goodbyes are never easy, and it became even more evident as we joined Fourways staff and learners in saying goodbye to the Class of 2023.

The day was filled with a lot of laughter, tears, handshakes, hugs, congratulatory messages, inspiring speeches and to top it all, joyful songs as the school said farewell to the matriculants during their final assembly on October 17.

One of the learners, Amissa Mbonzi said she was happy to have reached this far in life.

“I have been waiting for this moment because I have aspirations of furthering my studies abroad. So, I am working tirelessly to fulfil that dream. It’s exciting now that it’s no longer in years to come but months to come. I just need to perform well in my final results.”

Anathi Kubeka said she could not wait to be enrolled for a degree in medicine.

“I am not sure about which university as yet. But I did apply to a few. So, I’ll choose when I get my results but I’m stuck between Wits and Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University.”

Amissa Mbonzi enjoys one more hug with her bestie, Anathi Kubeka at Fourways High School.

The school principal Andrew Holliday said, “Firstly I want to say congratulations. You have worked hard to reach this moment and you should be very proud of yourselves. You have overcome challenges, persevered through difficult times, and achieved great things.

“We know all too well that your high school career started off fairly well in 2019 but your Grade 9 year, 2020, was probably one of the worst years of your short lives.” He added it was the worst year of his much longer life.
“2021 was a bit better but it is only this year that things seem to have settled into the new normal.

“I say this: go out into the world and make a difference. Use your knowledge, skills, and talents to make the world a better place. Today, you are symbolically leaving the school but you are not leaving the Fourways family, you are becoming a Fourways alumnus and I encourage you to stay connected by joining the Alumni Association and staying involved by supporting all alumni and the school for the rest of your lives.”
