The undefeated EFC flyweight reigning champion Gift ‘The Day’ Walker lost his first battle, his first title and his winning streak.
His opponent Nkazimulo ‘King Shaka’ Zulu had said at the weigh-in, “He knows he is facing a different kind of beast, he is facing a finisher and he is facing a different guy. Deep inside he knows what is gonna happen.”
The crowd chanted ‘Zulu, Zulu, Zulu’ and in the third round, Zulu defeated Walker via submission due to a mounted guillotine choke. “He took Walker down for what he is known for, submissions. I still cannot believe how that fight turned out. The crowd was going wild for Zulu and I feel that was his advantage,” said EFC fan Pearl Phala.
Zulu currently holds the flyweight championship belt and is also the bantamweight champion. “I wanted to walk in the footsteps of Dricus du Plessis and I did just that,” said Zulu at the end of the fight. He added he needed to take care of business by confirming a showdown with Terence Balelo.
Walker said after his defeat, “I have no shame in losing to Zulu. He is a legend and losing this title is not only a wakeup call but encouragement for me to do better and train much harder than before.”
