What are your thoughts about the upcoming elections?

The election date is approaching and residents weigh in on their preparation to cast their votes.

The election date has been announced as May 29 and residents are looking forward to making their mark.

Here is what some in the community had to say…

Kgomotso Makgabutlane: When the registrations opened I did not want to waste any more time but went straight to register because that is my democratic right. For young people who do not know which party to vote for, my advice is to check their manifestos to see if they align with your values.

Bethuel Sithole: I never miss an opportunity to vote because of how our parents have fought for this right. What saddens me is how the youth have sort of taken a step back from politics. I understand they might have lost confidence in the ruling party, however, change comes with each vote.

Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe: The voting stations in my ward are Reddham School in Waterfall, Kyalami Prep, Kyalami Kids, Leewkop and Halfway House Primary. I encourage people to vote and bring change to our communities.

Sbonga Shange: I havent made a decision as yet as to which party gets my vote because all of the manifestos that I have heard so far do not resonate with me. As the youth of today, we need positive change not voting for empty promises.

Philangenkosi Ndawonde: I have registered to vote, but I am not sure if I am going to vote. If I do, it means I had to sit down and convince myself, I guess I am just giving the government the taste of their own medicine. They made promises but did not deliver.

Ward 94 councillor David Foley: We have had many voting registration stations in the ward and I am satisfied with how people responded to it. I saw many people registering and they can go and vote anywhere they like during the elections day.

Nontokozo Moyo: I did register to vote it is our power. I mean it does not help to complain about issues on social media but if we ask if you have registered to vote you say no. It is not going to help in any way. I wish that young people could understand that their vote comes with change.
