Community urged to support Fourways Rotary Club’s toy drive initiative this Christmas

Fourways Rotary Club seeks donations for the annual toy drive to help bring smiles to children in hospitals and orphanages.

When Steve Margo, from the Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club, witnessed the pure joy and excitement radiating from the children in orphanages and hospitals as they unwrapped their Christmas gifts filled with colorful toys, he felt a deep sense of happiness wash over him.

The laughter and wide-eyed wonder of those kids stirred something deep inside him, a feeling so wonderful that he couldn’t shake the desire to continue bringing smiles to their faces year after year.

The Rotary Club has made this a tradition with the toy drive initiative, in collaboration with ExPro.

ExPro, a non-profit organisation that was created to support former football players, has worked with the Rotary Club for over a decade in order to donate toys to children in a number of hospitals and shelters.

This year is no different, said Margo, which is why they are seeking assistance from the community and the public at large in making this year’s Christmas toy donations truly unforgettable for the children.

He said they want to add a special touch that will bring joy and excitement to the little ones as they unwrap their gifts.

The previous Christmas gifts.

“Usually we are asking for donations of second-hand toys, or those that are not used. But this year, we thought it would be a great idea for those who wish to donate toys, to bring a new one. We have noticed that most of the time when we were requesting the second-hand ones, they’d be a little dirty and needed to be washed. This is not an obligation but just a request to put a big smile on those kid’s faces knowing that the toys are new from the box.”

Margo said they are open to having sponsors join the initiative as well. He emphasised that any monetary contributions, regardless of the amount, would be greatly appreciated and would help support this important drive.

“The toy wrapping will start on November 23. We collect all types of toys, from kitchen sets for girls, cars for boys, and so forth. When we package them, we do it according to their gender and indicate as well if the toys are unisex.”
