Pothole blitz brings relief to Fourways residents

The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) pothole blitz, conducted over the weekend of July 12–14, saw over 20 potholes repaired along Cedar Avenue West, 16 in Elm Street, and eight in Willow Road.

The repairs form part of ongoing efforts to address road safety concerns and restore driving conditions across Ward 115 by JRA.

Ward 115 councillor Mark van der Merwe explained that some of these potholes have been outstanding for about six months, some developed over the last three months, and some are more recent. “Hopefully residents can now drive on the left of the road, rather than on what is left of the road. All the repairs conducted during the weekend blitz are permanent fixes, designed to last indefinitely”
Van der Merwe thanked residents for consistently reporting potholes, which has helped prioritise the worst sections of the roads.

“Collectively, over the last month or so, we have had over 90 potholes repaired in Ward 115. I’m very happy that residents’ calls for help have been answered, and we are looking at getting each and every pothole in the ward addressed during the JRA pothole blitz.”
He also encouraged residents to continue reporting any new potholes directly to JRA, and to obtain a reference number. “Once you have the reference number, please send me the location, and a picture, so I can escalate it with the JRA inspectors, to ensure it is added to the next round of repairs.”

While there are still potholes to be addressed in Ward 115, Van der Merwe assured residents that the next wave of repairs is planned for the coming two weeks. “This is a team effort between residents and JRA. Together we can ensure our roads are safe and driveable for everyone.”
