JRA is fixing Ward 94’s streets
Councillor David Foley, of Ward 94, had been advocating for repairs on Bushwillow Street and Richard Road due to potholes and water leaks. After a bus got stuck, Johannesburg Roads Agency finally started working on the road.
Bushwillow Street and Richard Road between Broadacres and Witkoppen were in bad shape, with lots of potholes and water leaks making it hard to drive on. Councillor David Foley, of Ward 94, has been asking Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) to fix the road for a long time, and finally, they’ve listened.
JRA has started working on the road, filling in potholes and fixing leaks. This is music to Foley’s ears because they’re making the road safe and smooth again after a bus got stuck in one of the deep potholes.
Amongst other issues, there was water leaking onto the road, the source of which nobody knew. Foley asked Johannesburg Water (JW) to find out if it was a pipe leak or just groundwater.

After investigating, the water utility found out that it was indeed a pipe leak. They fixed the leak a few days later. “After two weeks of a couple of jackhammers and the team really trying to do their best, we’ve actually got the grader on site. The graders will remove all of the tar, they will level it all out, roll it, and then re-tar it.
“This has been a long time coming, so apologies from the team. It’s just been a lot of other projects that the team have been doing to try and get to this point. Within the next couple of weeks, I think this will be totally resolved. Then we will be able to transverse this road nicely,” said Foley. “I know it’s been a difficult, in fact, six months to a year that we’ve had a problem here. So, hopefully, this will all be resolved in the next couple of weeks. Just remember, this road is closed at the moment. So, please make sure you inform all the residents in the area not to drive down the back end of Richard Road. It is closed.”

That is not all, Foley said he has some more good news in Ward 94. After a number of years driving JRA to resurface some of the roads, the following roads will be completed in the next couple of weeks. “Roos Street, Macbeth Avenue, just off Roos – both nearly complete in Witkoppen. Elder Street and Oak Avenue in Craigavon, and Crestwood Drive in Lonehill. This is going to make travelling down these roads much safer and more comfortable going forward.”
