Street Lines organiser Ryan van der Spuy promises jaw-dropping tricks and fierce competition as SA’s top skaters, including Fourways’ 10-year-old Ashley Gindre, hit Thrashers Skatepark this weekend.

The countdown is on as South Africa’s premier skateboarding competition makes its return to the capital city.

The fifth edition of the Street Lines Skate Tournament is locked in for September 27, with the country’s best skaters preparing to battle it out for glory at the iconic Thrashers Skatepark in Pretoria.

Among them is a Fourways 10-year-old, Ashley Gindre. Thrashers Skatepark, renowned for its challenging mix of obstacles, will provide the perfect stage for athletes to push their creativity, style, and technical skills to the limit.

Both men’s and women’s divisions will see an exciting lineup of invited skaters from across the country. At the same time, rising newcomers will also get the opportunity to prove themselves on the big stage.

According to Street Lines organiser Ryan van der Spuy, who is known for hosting the thrilling motocross riding competition, King of the Whip, at Montecasino in Fourways, competitors will face off in the qualifying rounds, judged on use of park, trick variety, and overall flow.

He said the top performers will progress to the finals, where the stakes rise with a R60 000 prize purse and additional prizes from event partners on the line.

“The day will conclude with the fan-favourite Best Trick contest, open to all competitors, where the winner will walk away with an Insta360 X4 360º action camera.”

Van der Spuy said the tournament continues to play a key role in elevating skateboarding in South Africa.

“We’re thrilled to be back with this year’s tournament, always a standout on our annual calendar.

The growth and progression of skateboarding locally over the past few years has been incredible, and being able to provide this platform for the country’s top athletes to showcase their skills is something we’re extremely proud of.

We can’t wait to see the action unfold and crown the 2025 Street Lines champions.”

He invites spectators to come experience the raw energy, excitement, and talent of the nation’s skate scene live.
