4Paws still fighting for a forever home

Months after launching an urgent appeal to secure new premises, beloved animal rescue 4Paws remains in limbo, grateful for community support but still short of the funds needed to move.

The dream of a forever home for the animals of 4Paws Animal Shelter remains just out of reach.
While the community has rallied behind the rescue organisation’s heartfelt plea for help, the team is still battling to secure the funds needed to buy a permanent property.

For years, 4Paws has been a lifeline for abandoned, abused, and neglected animals across Johannesburg, offering not only food and medical care but also love and dignity. When news broke earlier this year that the shelter’s current property was going on the market, supporters quickly opened their hearts and wallets to help the organisation relocate.

And while the response was overwhelming, it sadly wasn’t enough to make the move happen. “We were truly touched by the kindness and generosity of our supporters. Unfortunately, we did not reach the full funding required to purchase the property we had in mind. However, every cent donated has been safely invested until we can raise enough to make the dream a reality,” said 4Paws CEO Merinda Prinsloo.

The funds are being held in a dedicated investment account, ensuring that donations remain secure and will be used solely for the purchase of a permanent shelter.

The team at 4Paws had identified a promising property in Mnandi, perfectly suited for their operations, complete with space for animal housing, quarantine areas, and outdoor runs. But with the purchase still out of financial reach, the organisation continues to operate from its current location, which remains on the market and could be sold at any time.

That uncertainty looms heavily over the small but dedicated team, who continue to rescue and care for animals daily despite the threat of losing their shelter.

“Our situation remains urgent. The animals in our care depend on us for everything: safety, love, and survival. We are appealing to the public and corporate partners once again to help us secure a permanent home where our work can continue without fear of being displaced,” said Prinsloo.

Over the years, 4Paws has transformed the lives of countless animals, providing vaccinations, sterilisations, and life-saving treatments for those often forgotten or discarded. Their impact stretches beyond the animals themselves, touching volunteers, adopters, and community members who have witnessed the power of compassion in action.

Despite the challenges, Prinsloo remains hopeful. “We are so thankful for the trust and belief people have shown in our mission. We haven’t given up, and we won’t. Every donation, big or small, brings us one step closer to a secure future for these animals.”

Community members are encouraged to continue supporting 4Paws through donations, fundraising efforts, or volunteering their time. To lend a hand or make a contribution, contact Merinda Prinsloo at [email protected] or 083 377 3219.
