Actress Carolyn Steyn mourns the loss of ‘little sister’
After a heartbreaking year that began with the loss of her husband, Carolyn Steyn now mourns her ‘little sister’ Sharon Barkhuizen.
Tributes are pouring in for media personality Carolyn Steyn after she announced the passing of her ‘little sister’, Sharon Barkhuizen. Steyn shared the news on her Facebook page, sparking an outpouring of grief from friends and the close-knit community of the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day initiative, which she helped establish.
The loss comes during an already heartbreaking year for Steyn, who lost her husband, Douw Steyn, in February.

Tributes have poured in across social media, celebrating Barkhuizen as a vibrant and dedicated force behind the charitable work she shared with Steyn.
In an emotional post, Steyn described Barkhuizen as her champion, warrior, and best friend. She also revealed that Barkhuizen had been courageously battling cancer.
“My little sister is no more,” Steyn wrote. “Goodbye, my sissie. I love you. I love you. I love you. You were my solid rock, my champion, my warrior, my best friend, my lawyer, my love, my brains, my builder, my boss.
There was so much sadness in our lives, but together we fought the battles like the street fighters that we both are. Your pain and suffering are now over. For that, I am relieved.”
Steyn recalled their shared dreams and memories: “You were planning on beating cancer. We were planning on making so many more memories. You even put them in the calendar: Cape Town, Sicily, Hungary…

We spent so much time together. Your wit! Your sense of comedy. I don’t know how your brain worked. I was in constant awe. I am shattered. I don’t want a life without you. You were Carolyn. I was Sharon. Together we were ‘Sharolyn’.”
Countless people, whose lives were touched by Barkhuizen’s dedication to 67 Blankets, are sending condolences to Steyn and her family, honouring a woman whose energy and generosity left a lasting mark on her community.
