Boot camp trains gym beginners at Kingfisher Park
Brett Richard Palframan, a personal trainer with more than 14 years of experience, is helping residents take their first steps toward fitness through a beginner-friendly outdoor boot camp in Fourways.
A passion for fitness that began in his teenage years has grown into a lifelong career for personal trainer Brett Richard Palframan.
He is now helping residents kick-start their wellness journeys through outdoor boot camps at Kingfisher Park, in Fourways. Palframan, who has worked in the fitness industry for more than a decade, said his journey into personal training was a natural one.
“Pretty much I’m a personal trainer. I’ve been a personal trainer now for over 14 years. I trained in Dubai, had clients in Dubai, lived in Dubai for a little bit, then came back to South Africa, over Covid time.”

After returning home, he focused on rebuilding and expanding his fitness offering locally. “I started re-picking up my boot camps that I launched there in South Africa. Both personal training, on to a boot camp coach, as well as a HYROX coach as well. All levels of fitness, and aspects of fitness.”
His connection to fitness runs far deeper than a career choice. “It’s been my whole life. Since I was 14 years old, I stepped into the gym and I haven’t left since.”
According to Palframan, fitness offers benefits that go beyond physical health. “It’s always fun to help people reach their goals, and for them to push themselves and to realise what they’re actually capable of, because a lot of people, in this day and age, their mindset is their biggest boundary.”

At Kingfisher Park, Palframan runs a beginner-friendly outdoor boot camp designed to make fitness accessible to everyone. “It happens there three times a week, for people looking to get fit and get some fresh air, but aren’t quite advanced as yet.”
Sessions take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and focus on bodyweight exercises in a relaxed outdoor environment. “We do a nice little bodyweight bootcamp out there and it’s a great community.”

Palframan said Kingfisher Park was an obvious choice for the initiative. “It’s central. It’s a great park. There’s a lot of animals around as well with it being a dog park, and it’s something that no one’s utilised as yet in the park. I saw the opportunity and thought, before someone else does it, why not do it yourself?”
While the programme is gaining traction, he acknowledged that consistency can be a challenge for newcomers to fitness. “Commitment issues are a problem, but that’s just the nature of the game when it comes to people who are new to fitness. It’s a big excuse until they actually start, then, once they find the commitment and the routine, they start receiving their goals and achieving them.”
