Warning about traffic issued ahead of LIV Golf Tournament 2026 at Steyn City
Motorists along Winnie Mandela Drive are being warned of possible delays and parking restrictions as preparations intensify for the 2026 LIV Golf Tournament at Steyn City, the first time the global event will be hosted in South Africa.
As excitement builds for the upcoming 2026 LIV Golf Tournament, motorists travelling along key routes, such as Winnie Mandela Drive, are being urged to plan ahead for possible traffic delays.
The event, set to take place from March 20 to 22 at Steyn City in Johannesburg, will, no doubt, have an effect on traffic, as well as on parking regulations in the area. This year’s roadside signage warning of delays and restricted parking is part of proactive preparations to help commuters navigate anticipated crowds and ensure smooth access for visitors and residents alike.
The tournament has been officially confirmed as the first LIV Golf event hosted in South Africa, and on the African continent, representing a landmark moment for sport in the region.

Steyn City’s world-class golf facilities and infrastructure were selected after Gauteng successfully secured the hosting rights, following the renowned international competition’s most recent staging in the United Kingdom.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, in August last year, described the achievement as a major coup for the province. “It’s a multi-billion-rand tournament. [We will have] 54 of the top golfers coming to our show for the first time in the history of our country.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank the minister of sports for partnering with us as the host province and providing all the necessary support.”
Public interest was already running high when Lesufi made this announcement last year. Lesufi said to build momentum and grow participation in the sport, the provincial government introduced grassroots programmes as part of the tournament’s legacy plans.
“We are introducing golf on Wednesdays in some of our schools, as part of the build-up to this important tournament. We’re also pleased by the announcement that U12s will enter the tournament free of charge, so they can be part of the development of golf.”
