Johannesburg Roads Agency repaints road markings in Dainfern to boost driver safety

Fresh paint along Broadacres Drive is bringing renewed visibility for motorists following calls to address faded street lines.

Freshly painted road markings are bringing renewed visibility to a stretch of Broadacres Drive outside Dainfern Square, where motorists have welcomed work by the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) on October 22 following concerns about fading lines.

The work follows recent calls from Ward 94 councillor David Foley for the agency to prioritise road markings that had become difficult to see.

“For me, it’s bringing additional safety to the community, so people can understand which side of the road they should be on without driving into somebody else,” said Foley.

He emphasised that visible markings are crucial when drivers are distracted. “Because people are on their phones constantly, where they’re talking or texting,” he said, noting that a distinct centre line keeps drivers in their lanes.

One motorist, Lita Kullman, who hooted as a form of appreciation as she drove past, welcomed the repainting.

“We have been waiting for this, and it is good to see the road markings being repainted. The fresh paint makes the markings more visible,” she said.

Visible road markings help motorists identify lanes, position their vehicles correctly and follow road guidance, particularly when driving conditions make it difficult to see the road clearly.

JRA worker Kholofelo Maitisa said, “We are busy repainting the road markings with the use of good-quality paint to help improve visibility on the roads,” he said.

Maitisa added that the work was not limited to Dainfern, as the team had also carried out road work in Diepsloot on October 21.
