Water outage hits Dainfern as major pipe repairs continue at Fourways Gardens
Ward 94 councillor David Foley says teams are on site to resolve a major underground pipe issue that has affected the main supply line.
Residents in Dainfern and surrounding areas within Fourways Gardens Estate are currently without water as upgrade works on Chorisia Lane and Celtis Crescent continue.
Ward 94 councillor David Foley said the interruption is linked to ongoing infrastructure repairs and a major water pipe issue uncovered beneath the road network.

The road exploded last year and became mushy due to a suspected pipe leak and underground water. “The water is still coming out. So, we’re struggling to get to that point where the team can fully fix it,” Foley said, referring to a 30cm main supply pipe running under Chorisia Lane.
He explained that the pipe failure has had a wider impact on supply across the estate and nearby communities. “Dainfern Golf Estate, Dainfern Valley, Fernridge Estate, and the surrounding areas are out of water at the moment, because this is the main supply line that runs through Fourways Gardens.”

Johannesburg Water has issued a notice on social media informing residents of the outage and ongoing repair work, while teams remain on site working to resolve the issue. “Water supply remains isolated to prevent further losses and to facilitate the repair process,” they said in the notice. “[Residents] in the affected areas may continue to experience low pressure to no water during this period.”
Foley said the situation stems from long-standing infrastructure damage in the area, which dates back to last year. “The road actually burst last year around September, and that’s where the real problem started. Repairs were postponed from March to May, and now the work is continuing.”
He added that the current upgrade work on Chorisia Lane and Celtis Crescent is part of a broader effort to stabilise the road and underground services. “Johannesburg Roads Agency and Johannesburg Water are both on site. They’ve been doing drainage work and locating the fault so the pipe can be properly sealed.”
