Coding centre empowers Diepsloot youth with digital skills
A local woman is making a difference in Diepsloot by equipping young learners with vital coding and robotics skills.
Rhulani Masungini (41), originally from Malamulele in Limpopo, started her ICT training journey in 2020.
What began as basic computer lessons has since grown into an initiative that she named after herself, which focuses on preparing children for the digital future.

Masungini said her passion was inspired by her own struggles with technology during her university years.
“I didn’t know anything about computers or laptops at the time. I faced many challenges, and I didn’t want other children, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to go through the same experience.”
She began teaching at various schools across Limpopo and Pretoria, including primary schools where learners later graduated with certificates in coding and robotics.
“My love for computers is unexplainable. I went all out to buy a few laptops and robots as a start-up.”
Earlier this year, she brought her programme to Diepsloot after identifying a need for digital skills development in the area.

She focuses on the younger children, offering them basic computer training, building cars and robots from scratch, and preparing them for high school technology courses.
Since January, Masungini has been working with several local schools, introducing learners to coding concepts and problem-solving techniques.
“Coding and robotics teach children more than just technology. It helps them think critically, follow instructions, and solve problems in different ways.”
Despite facing initial challenges such as a lack of office space, Masungini received support from local stakeholders, which helped her establish a base for her operations.
“It is better now that we have an office to operate and we meet with the kids on weekends.”
