Johannesburg Roads Agency confirms June repairs for dangerous Sunninghill potholes

After nearly two years of complaints from residents, JRA says repairs to hazardous potholes at Nanyuki and Malindi roads are scheduled for early June.

Residents and motorists in Sunninghill may soon see relief from the dangerous potholes at the corner of Nanyuki and Malindi roads, after Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) confirmed that repairs are scheduled to begin in the first week of June.

The damaged stretch of road has been a longstanding concern for residents, with the Sunninghill Community Ratepayers’ Association (SCRA) saying the potholes have posed a serious danger to motorists for close to two years.

Responding to media queries, acting HOD for regional operations Mpho Maruping confirmed that JRA is aware of the issue. He added that permanent repairs are expected to take place during the first week of June.

In the meantime, he said temporary measures will be implemented to improve safety while motorists wait for full repairs. “The potholes will be made safe in interim until permanent repairs are scheduled.”

The update comes after residents raised concerns over worsening road conditions.

SCRA suburb manager Tracy Kensey previously described the road as an extremely dangerous section, requiring resurfacing rather than temporary patchwork repairs.

She also expressed frustration over the prolonged delays, noting that the road is a major thoroughfare used by motorists travelling between Sunninghill and Barbeque Downs.
