Douglasdale Officials intensify crime prevention patrols along Winnie Mandela Drive

Douglasdale CPF, SAPS, and private security partners conducted a high-visibility operation along Winnie Mandela Drive, urging residents and motorists to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to help combat crime in the area.

Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF) joined Douglasdale SAPS and several private security companies in a high-visibility crime prevention operation along Winnie Mandela Drive.

According to Douglasdale CPF public relations officer Freda Boiles, teams were deployed across the area to conduct patrols, monitor suspicious activity, and engage with pedestrians as part of ongoing efforts to improve safety in the precinct.

Boiles said motorists are encouraged to remain alert and keep valuables such as cellphones, handbags, wallets, and laptops out of sight while travelling, particularly at intersections and in slow-moving traffic, where opportunistic crimes often occur.

She further warned that the light emitted from mobile devices at night can attract unwanted attention, and make both motorists and pedestrians more vulnerable to criminals.

“While law enforcement and security teams continue to maintain a visible presence, community members are encouraged to take responsibility for their personal safety by remaining aware of their surroundings and avoiding unnecessary risks.”

Residents were also urged to report suspicious activity to SAPS by calling 10111 and to open cases when they become victims of crime.

Boiles explained that reporting incidents plays an important role in helping police identify crime trends, deploy resources effectively, and investigate criminal activity within the community.

The operation also included visits to liquor outlets across the precinct to check compliance with regulations, as well as vehicle stop-and-search operations conducted along Riverbend Road.

On behalf of the CPF, Boiles thanked Douglasdale SAPS for the opportunity to participate in the joint operation aimed at improving community safety.
