Douglasdale Police Station among Gauteng’s worst for commercial crime

Douglasdale Police Station recorded notable increases in commercial crime, shoplifting, and robbery with aggravating circumstances during the fourth quarter crime reporting period.

The fourth-quarter crime statistics for the 2025/26 financial year revealed increases in several serious crime categories at Douglasdale Police Station between January and March 2026.


The statistics were announced by South African Police Services Minister Firoz Cachalia, Deputy Minister Cassel Mathale, and Acting National Commissioner Puleng Dimpane on May 22.

Douglasdale Police Station ranked eighth nationally and sixth in Gauteng for commercial crime, after cases increased from 270 between January and March 2025 to 317 during the same period this year. This reflects an increase of 47 cases, or 17.4%.


The station also featured among the country’s top stations for robbery with aggravating circumstances. Reported cases rose sharply from 36 to 58 incidents, an increase of 22 cases or 61.1%, placing Douglasdale 29th nationally and 14th in Gauteng for the category.


Shoplifting cases also increased at the station. Incidents climbed from 75 to 83 cases, an increase of eight cases, or 10.7%, ranking Douglasdale fifth nationally and third in Gauteng for shoplifting.

In the broader category of other serious crimes, Douglasdale ranked 12th nationally and sixth in Gauteng despite a slight decrease. Cases declined from 620 to 589, reflecting a 5% decrease.


Nationally, South Africa recorded decreases in several serious crime categories during the reporting period. Community-reported serious crimes dropped by 4.4%, while robbery with aggravating circumstances declined by 15.6% countrywide. However, commercial crime across the country increased by 4%, rising from 35 374 to 36 797 cases.
