Johannesburg Roads Agency confirms delay on Chorisia Lane rehabilitation
Rehabilitation works on Chorisia Lane in Fourways Gardens Estate have been placed on hold, as Johannesburg Water investigates a suspected underground pipe leak that could delay the project’s completion.
The next phase of rehabilitation works on Chorisia Lane in Fourways Gardens Estate has been temporarily suspended, after concerns were raised about a possible underground water leak.
Ward 94 councillor David Foley said the road had not dried as expected, despite significant rehabilitation work already being completed, prompting concerns that there may still be an underground leak affecting the site.
Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has since confirmed that a suspected Johannesburg Water (JW) pipe leak is the reason the project has been paused.

Acting head of department for regional operations Mpho Maruping said: “There is a suspected JW pipe leak at the identified location. The matter requires investigation and assessment by the relevant team to confirm the source and extent of the leak, and to determine the necessary remedial action.”
Maruping said JRA had already completed a substantial portion of the rehabilitation work.
“The internal teams had completed construction of the layerworks and were scheduled to proceed with cutting the final layer to enable the commencement of the wearing course.”
He added that the ward councillor and Fourways Gardens Estate management have already engaged JW, and are awaiting the utility’s investigation before construction can continue.

“Should the leak be confirmed, the rehabilitation project will be impacted as the completed works may need to be affected, and, where necessary, reinstated to allow for the repair of the underground infrastructure.
“This will result in delays to the overall project programme. At this stage, we are unable to confirm revised timelines until JW completes its investigations and the extent of the required remedial work is determined.
“At this stage, a revised completion timeframe cannot yet be confirmed. The project programme will only be reviewed and reworked once JW has completed its investigations and any required works on site.
“Upon completion of their activities, and assuming no further complications are identified, a revised programme and anticipated completion date will be communicated.”
