Reach For A Dream children take to Kyalami track at Festival of Motoring

Young dreamers enjoy hot laps in supercars at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit as Reach For A Dream and Cartrack team up for a day of hope.

A group of young dreamers turned the Festival of Motoring at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit into a day of courage and excitement as they experienced the thrill of supercars on the track.

The children were treated to supercars, hot laps and activities at the event through a partnership between Reach For A Dream and Cartrack.

Slindile Tsotetsi, Gauteng regional manager for Reach For A Dream, said the experience was designed to give children living with life-threatening illnesses a day filled with hope.

“We’ve brought our amazing dreamers to experience the thrill of FOM,” said Tsotetsi. “They’re so excited. They went into the cars, and it’s just a once-in-a-lifetime experience for them.”

For some of the children, it was their first visit to the event, making the day even more memorable.

Tsotetsi explained that the organisation runs monthly Dream Clubs because many parents have to stop working to care for children living with life-threatening illnesses.

Reach For A Dream steps in to ensure the children are given hope and something to fight for, she added.

Dream Club theme of courage

This month’s Dream Club theme was courage, with the children challenged to embrace the excitement of getting into the cars and completing laps around the track.

“When they got here, and they saw the cars, they lost their minds,” said Tsotetsi. “They were just like, ‘Can we just stay here?’ They went in a hot lap, and they want to go back again now.”

Among those enjoying the experience was 15-year-old Mogomotsi Smith, who described the day on the track as an amazing experience.

“The cars were really fast, but I mean, I’m used to it because my uncle drives like that,” said Smith. “But today it was just a more realistic experience, and I would just say it was a very amazing experience.”

Smith also expressed appreciation for Reach For A Dream and the opportunities it creates for young people.

Fundraising through annual raffle

While the children enjoyed the track, the day also highlighted the importance of fundraising to ensure Reach For A Dream can continue fulfilling dreams.

The organisation is currently raising funds through its annual Dream Raffle, with tickets priced at R200. Participants stand a chance to win a brand-new Toyota while contributing towards the organisation’s work.

“We’re just thankful for the partnership that Cartrack really gives us every year to bring the children here to have fun, to give them hope, to give them courage,” said Tsotetsi.
