Sibusiso Sovendle targets Roberto Miyaba at EFC 137

After a difficult stretch in the cage, Sibusiso Sovendle is determined to rewrite his story and prove he remains a true South African warrior when he faces Roberto Miyaba next.

With his back against the wall and a losing streak to reverse, Sibusiso Sovendle is approaching his clash with Roberto ‘Rapid Fire’ Miyaba at EFC 137 on September 10 at the World Sports Betting Arena with renewed focus and a clear plan.

The relentless fighter, who trains with the Mamelodi Warriors and is better known simply as SSS, believes the bout represents far more than just another win.

“A winning performance against Miyaba means a lot after a losing streak,” said Sovendle. “It will prove I am a true South African warrior who never gives up, no matter the situation. Myself and my family will be proud.”

His strategy centres on relentless pressure. “I am going to slow him down by putting the same pressure he brings,” he said. “Pressure makes diamonds. In the first round, I will make sure I counter him with my best shots and kicks from kickboxing.”

Sovendle has used the time away from competition to rebuild. “I have worked a lot on myself, put more time in to grind, and come back strong. What I have worked on for Miyaba is that I have to put pressure on him and be patient for the right time to knock him out.”

He has studied his opponent carefully. “The weakness I saw in him is that he hates pressure and slows down when he is in that position,” Sovendle claimed. “My wrestling will slow him down and my takedown defence will make him gas out so I can get an opening for a knockout.”

While striking has always been his strongest asset, Sovendle insists he is ready for every range. “I know my striking has always been my strength, but I am a complete fighter. SSS will stand and pick him apart with hands and kicks. Unless he wants to clinch, that is when I will wrestle him on the ground, control him until he slows down, and his face opens for a knockout.

“I know I have more experience. Carrying a record of 13 pro fights at 25 years old has taught me a lot about MMA. I know if I keep the winning streak going, I will be champion one day, like before I became the number one contender for the bantamweight title.”

Sovendle thanked his supporters, saying, “To God be the glory. My comeback means a lot to the Mamelodi Warriors and my Cape Town brothers and fans.”
