Security guard Jabu Khoza marks five years as welcoming face at Witkoppen Clinic
A familiar face at the entrance helps ease the journey for elderly and vulnerable visitors seeking medical care in Fourways.
For many people visiting Witkoppen Clinic, the journey to receiving medical care starts at the gate, where security guard Jabu Khoza is often the first friendly face they encounter.
The 36-year-old has spent the past five years working at the clinic, describing the period as fruitful because of the people he meets and the opportunity to assist those who need it most.
While security guards are tasked with protecting people and property and controlling access to facilities, Khoza said the part of his job that means the most to him is helping others.

“For me, working here is fruitful because I get to meet new people every day. I also get the opportunity to assist sick people, disabled people and elderly people, and that fulfils me,” said Khoza.
Stationed at the clinic from Monday to Friday, Khoza has become a familiar presence to patients and visitors. His position at the entrance means he regularly interacts with people from different backgrounds, including those who may require additional assistance when arriving at the clinic.

For Khoza, these daily interactions have made his workplace about more than simply carrying out his security duties.
Khoza said he enjoys helping people, adding that meeting different individuals every day and being able to assist them makes him happy.

His role has also given him a connection to the surrounding community. One of the ways Khoza keeps up with local happenings is through the Fourways Review, which he enjoys reading as part of his daily routine.
As the newspaper is delivered to the clinic, Khoza is among the first people to receive it.
“I enjoy reading the Fourways Review because it keeps me informed about what is happening in the community,” he said.
Away from the clinic, Khoza spends his free time attending church.
After five years of welcoming people through Witkoppen Clinic’s gates, Khoza has become a familiar face to many who pass through them. For him, however, the most rewarding part of being there remains simple: meeting people and having the opportunity to help.
