From Ibiza to Pineslopes: International DJ brings beats

PINESLOPES - International DJ Karina Chaczbabian will celebrate Women's Day in Pineslopes on her first visit to the country.

Chaczbabian, who DJs at The Zoo Project in Ibiza and in Berlin, will play alongside South African DJs in the second annual That’s What She Said 2013 at Sunday Funk, Citadela Restaurant on 11 August.

“To get people together, have fun and enjoy each other’s company is enough of a reason to dance, but if we can also celebrate Women’s Day – even better! I never plan my sets so they all reflect the mood and energy of the crowd, location and day, so for sure it will be a special set,” said Chaczbabian.

She lists Chicago and Detroit as her top cities to DJ in, based on their tradition and disco families.

Her style is vinyl house music and has evolved since she first started DJing in the late 90s, with the “chunky deep house sound of San Francisco” and modern minimal techno grooves coupled with hypnotic deep house melodies.

“I absolutely love the classic sound of Chicago and Detroit, and during the last five years I have kept bringing back more and more precious and original disco vinyls from the United States of America. Combine all of this together and you have the eclectic Karina sound.”

She is looking forward to see what the South African house scene has to offer but she warns, “Please note: I love to dance, so I hope to see both the crowd, and me, dancing all night!”
