Fashion with a heart for children
BRYANSTON - A young fashion designer in Bryanston has made it her mission to help young South African's this winter.
Sabrina Kennedy, owner of BiBi Rouge by Sabrina Kennedy, has partnered with The Grace Factory with the hope of keeping a few babies and toddlers a little warmer in July and August.
The Grace factory is a non-profit organisation that collects baby items at locations in Gauteng and distributes these items to other non-profit organisations such as children’s homes and orphanages.
“Every winter I think about the small children and babies that don’t have families who have the means to keep them warm or fed in winter. It is something very close to my heart and something I have always wanted to help with,” Kennedy said.
“When I heard about The Grace Factory and their cause I contacted them immediately. I just felt they were helping a cause that many people neglect, and I wanted to try and help them get the word out. I thought if they could put a drop off bin at my studio, I could ask each customer who collects an order to bring something for The Grace Factory.”
The young designer said she started BiBi Rouge by Sabrina Kennedy while studying Marketing Communication and Psychology at the University of Johannesburg. “Although I enjoyed it I knew it was not my passion. So I decided to write a list of jobs that I would love to do, even if I didn’t think it was possible for me to do them. I then decided to try each job on the list until I found one that I was passionate about doing and felt I could really do well in. Fashion was the thing I loved the most and for the longest, so it was on top of the list, and when I tried it, I just knew I wouldn’t need to try anything else.”
Kennedy said she was happy to buy blankets on the public’s behalf, which would then be donated to The Grace Factory, or you could arrange to drop off your donations at the BiBi Rouge by Sabrina Kennedy office in Bryanston.
