Mandela magic for Ark animals

CHARTWELL - Painting, planting trees and bathing puppies were just some of the activities at the Ark Animal Centre on Mandela Day.

Staff from the Live Out Loud Group painted the new Ark house while MUA Insurance planted trees donated by Fourways Farmers’ Market.

Building a rabbit hutch, cleaning the rabbit and pig areas and bathing the puppies were next on the list.

The centre’s Candice Eilertsen said about 200 people were expected to join in on the centre’s Mandela Day activities, but she welcomed anyone who wanted to lend a helping hand.

“While we need to ensure the needed activities are done, we also want the puppies to receive lots of attention, as that is just as important,” said Eilertsen.

Spirits at Ark remained high among volunteers and the pups.
