2026 local government elections: Bejay Tulsee, the councillor candidate (Ward 89) for ActionSA.

In one sentence, who are you?
I am Bejay Tulsee, the councillor candidate (Ward 89) for ActionSA.

What are the biggest issues facing your ward currently?
There is a severe maintenance backlog, infrastructure collapse, institutional decay overtaken by frequent vandalism of water pumps, electrical cabling and incompetent/unqualified service providers. The costs are exorbitant with continued imposition of unaffordable tariff increases to fund corruption.

What practical solutions would you prioritise should you be named councillor of your ward?
As the elected representatives of my residents, coupled with my years of experience in the public sector (including that of a municipal manager), I am adequately armed to take on the cudgels of our residents directly to the relevant authorities/persons and impress upon them on the urgency of matters and demand immediate action. We need a multi-pronged approach to ensure effectiveness, efficiency and value for money.

What is one misconception about you or your party that you would clarify?
I may be construed to be overbearing, but I am result driven and extremely impatient when we, as residents, are compromised by undue delays, poor workmanship, neglect and disregard, etc. Taking cognisance of the fact that we timeously and religiously pay our dues to CoJ, ActionSA stands to protect the rights of our citizens and restore the dignity of all.

Should your party’s candidate be named mayor, what issue should they address first?
We are confronted with long-term infrastructure planning versus short-term political priorities. Thus far, political promises supersede the needs of the residents, owing to poor planning, community consultation for pure legislative compliance, capacity building in wrong places, lack of co-ordination (IGR) between the spheres of government and entities, lack of accountability and shirking of responsibilities.
