Rivonia murderers arrested

SANDTON - Two men arrested for business robbery have been positively linked to the murder of a father of two in Rivonia in June.

Sandton police spokesperson Captain Kym Cloete said, “On 16 July members of the Sandton police Serious and Violent Crimes group arrested three men possibly linked to a business robbery which occurred in Sandton. The business robbery occurred on 26 April during the early morning hours in Rivonia. The victim was held up at gunpoint and robbed of his cellphone, cash and various other items.”

She said, “Through investigation, it was established that these suspects could possibly be linked to an attempted house robbery and murder incident which occurred in Sandton on 5 June.”

The murder and attempted robbery in Rivonia took place on 5 June. A family was at home when two men attempted to enter through a back door and a struggle ensued between the father and the suspects. The father was shot in the stomach and fatally wounded. The suspects fled the scene.

Cloete added, “On 23 July, investigation led to the positive linkage of two suspects to this murder and attempted robbery scene. A firearm was also recovered.”

The suspects were charged with business robbery, attempted house robbery and murder, and appeared in the Alexandra Court on 24 July.
