Barbeque Downs affected by Pikitup strike

BARBEQUE DOWNS - Barbeque Downs, Kyalami Estate and Kyalami Business Park are the three areas in Fourways still affected by Pikitup workers' illegal strike.

Refuse should have been removed in these areas on 24 July, but it remains uncollected.

Diepsloot has not been serviced either, due to residents intimidating Pikitup employees.

General manager for communication and stakeholder management, Desiree Ntshingila, said Pikitup’s contingency plans to mitigate the effects of the past week’s illegal strike have not been able to service all areas.

“We are treating the situation as a matter of urgency and would like to assure the public that we are working towards normalising operations across all depots,” she said.

Ntshingila added, “Special effort is being made to collect all outstanding refuse and additional waste that cannot fit into the bins during the course of this week. Pikitup appreciates the patience and understanding of residents and business owners and apologises for the inconvenience caused by the disruptions.”
