Educational campaign relaunched

SANDTON - The new season of Educ8, a nationwide matric mathematics and science revision initiative, was launched at the Sandton Sun Hotel.

The Educ8 programme is a joint venture of Telkom Mobile, BHP Billiton, Samsung, Primestars Marketing and the Department of Basic Education.

The initiative, now in its third year, provides Grade 12 pupils support to improve their performance in their final maths and science examinations.

It targets pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds and aims to address insecurities that pupils may have as they prepare for their year-end exams. It also aims to increase the number of pupils that excel in these subjects.

Last year, 18 percent of those who participated in the programme said that their maths results improved by over 20 percent. Fourty-three percent of those that attended the science sessions reported that their results improved by up to 10 percent.

“Many of the jobs in our industry are based on maths and science. We are constantly on the lookout for talented youngsters who have a passion for these subjects to help them reach their quest in becoming qualified engineers, scientists, accountants, actuarial scientists and other related professions,” said Themba Khumalo, Telkom Mobile’s marketing managing executive.

Pupils can access the course content weekly at telkommobile.co.za until 22 September 2013. A new module will be available for download each week.
