Rotary honours Witkoppen doctor

FOURWAYS - Dr Jean Bassett the executive director at Witkoppen Clinic is on the select list of South Africans honoured by Rotary.

She received a Paul Harris award for her commitment to the community and service for the greater good of humanity.

Bassett joined the likes of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Nelson Mandela, Miriam Makeba, Charlize Theron and Yvonne Chaka Chaka as a handful of non-Rotarians to receive the honour.

The award was originally introduced in the early 1900s and given to those offering humanitarian services.

According to Peter Rokkita, president of Rotary Kyalami, Bassett’s 17 years of involvement at the clinic proved her dedication to the community.

In those years the clinic has grown from 30 staff members to more than 120.
