The morning of 13 August began with a hippo spotted on Beyers Naude Drive.
According to initial reports, the hippo is from the Aloe Ridge Hotel and Heia Safari.
Last year a hippo from the hotel was shot by a resident after it roamed the area for months.
Sister site looklocal Krugersdorp said it was shot in the head on 28 November after the resident waited months for a shooting permit.
Looklocal Fourways was also caught up in the hype after the animal was spotted, driving on the M5 and the N14 in search of it.
Barend Jansen, a resident nearby, said he thought the hippo might be roaming along the N14 between Muldersdrift and Diepsloot.
He was part of a group of residents searching for the hippo.
