The Gift of 67 keeps on giving

BARBEQUE DOWNS - Barbeque Downs Community's annual Gift 67 Dinners are a force to be reckoned with.

The second annual Gift 67 Dinner in honour of Mandela Day held at Da Vincenzo Restaurant raised R26 000. Funds were generated via wine tasting, raffles and the auction of a painting of Nelson Mandela.

Barbeque Downs Community Chairperson Candice James was grateful to the community for their support on Mandela Day. She extended thanks to the community and Prega Rungasamy, Paul Sunnasy, Matthew Arnot, Warren de Wet, Anthony and Luigina Ayling and Atterbury for their contributions.

The community showed their giving spirit by purchasing equipment for Cobra United soccer team and Kids with Rhythm in Diepsloot. Both are programmes to inspire the youth in the township.

James was joined by Ward 93 councillor Annette Deppe to donate 60 training bibs, 45 shin pads, hurdles, agility ladders, a stop watch, medical kid and R800 for club membership from the Gift 67 fundraiser. Makro also distributed 28 soccer balls.

Money raised was used to purchase a sound system, laptop, digital camera, five ethnic drums, guitar bag, 20 branded T-shirts, guitar and microphone stand.

Unused funds from last year’s Gift 67 Dinner that raised R11 000 for Midrand Child Welfare paid for some staple food items for the organisation.
