Liquor outlets in the spotlight

KANANA - The Petitions and Public Participation Committee is hosting a public hearing on issues relating to liquor outlets in the City of Joburg.

The meeting will be held at Kanana Community Hall in Extension 4 on 7 September from 9am to 2pm.

Ward 93 councillor Annette Deppe invited community members to attend.

The City of Johannesburg has been inundated with petitions requesting closure of liquor outlets such as clubs, pubs, taverns and bottle stores that are posing challenges of noise pollution and public safety by misbehaving patrons who frequent these outlets.

These include the following:

  • Trading Licences
  • Trading Hours
  • Ownership and zoning of the buildings
  • Food control – Issuing of the Certificate of Acceptability
  • Occupational Health and Safety Compliance
  • Parking availability for patrons
