Barron robbed, suspects nabbed

FOURWAYS - Douglasdale police arrested two men in a taxi on Witkoppen Road during the early hours of 22 August after it was established the men had just committed a business robbery.

Communications officer of the Douglasdale police station, Warrant Officer Balan Muthan said the suspects were arrested before the business owners had realised their restaurant had been robbed.

Manager of the Barron on Witkoppen Road, Shaun Miles, said they closed up at about 12.30am. He speculated that the suspects must have been watching them, as the robbery occurred shortly after staff left the property. He said the two suspects entered the premises by crossing the river just off Witkoppen Road. They stole two flat screen TVs, liquor and cigarettes, among other goods.

Miles said the suspects took the cigarette machine and threw it into the river. “This is not the first time this has happened,” he said. Miles said the restaurant had been robbed about six months previously.
