Community revamps intersections
DOUGLASDALE - Three intersections in Ward 115 are set to change forever.
After months of organisation, community activism has enabled the go-ahead to beautify the intersections of Douglas Drive and Witkoppen Road, Riverbend Road and Witkoppen Road, as well as the Bellairs Drive and Malibongwe Drive intersection.
“For eight months I have addressed (city) council’s requirements to upgrade or alter the pavements. I am glad to say that a great deal of progress has been made in obtaining the necessary way-leaves from the City of Johannesburg,” said ward councillor Susan Mottram.
Thirteen municipal-owned entities have agreed to the project. However, the community is essential to ensure the project’s effectiveness.
“It is now time for the generous sponsors to take up the baton and proceed to the finish line. The sponsors will be required to complete and submit the Johannesburg Roads Agency and Gautrans application forms, which will transfer responsibility for the work undertaken at each site to them, and meet at their sponsored sites with the roads agency and Gautrans engineers, ward councillors and community representatives,” Mottram said.
Some of the sponsors are set to meet on 17 September to discuss the way forward.
