Fourth taxi shooter hands himself over to police

DIEPSLOOT - Thursday night saw an attempted murder suspect handing himself over to police.

The 31-year-old went to Diepsloot police station with his attorney, confessing that he was involved with shooting a taxi driver on 8 September during protest action on the R511.

Three other suspects were arrested on 10 September, also believed to have been involved with the shoot-out.

“The shooting incident happened during the taxi drivers’ strike on Monday, which left hundreds of Diepsloot taxi commuters stranded for transport. He and the other suspects will be charged with the attempted murder of the taxi driver. The suspects will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on 13 September,” said Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela, spokesman for Diepsloot police station.
