Cheers to Bierfest
MONTECASINO - Tops at Spar Bierfest 2013 was an extravaganza of delicious Bavarian food, authentic Bavarian entertainment and most of all lots of beer drinking.
Organiser of the Bierfest, Andrew Douglas said the 4 000 seater Bavarian Bauhaus was specially constructed in the Montecasino outdoor events area. It took the Bierfest crew 10 days to set up the tent, wooden tables, stage and decor that made up the Bavarian Bauhaus.
He said that Bierfest had become a fixture for many people and something that they looked forward to every year.
Guests snacked on warm pretzels, eisbein and bratwurst served to them by friendly frauleins, while washing it all down with German beers. Guests could play beer pong, the official sport of Bierfest while listening to a live Oompah band.
Douglas said, “This is our third year running and we’ve grown bigger every year. We’re very happy with the turnout this year and look forward to many more Bierfests.”
Despite the name of the festival the focus was not just on drinking with the organisers instituting a Cheers No Gears campaign at the festival to encourage responsible drinking.
