Animals rescued by 4Paws
4Paws animal shelter, outside Diepsloot, recently rescued two animals that badly needed help.
The first case was a cat that had an empty roll of tape stuck around her neck.
Founder of 4Paws, Merinda Brits said, “It is highly unlikely that humans were responsible, as the cat is very wild. It is strange but also not the first time that we’ve come across a cat with something stuck around its neck. The poor cat must have been in such discomfort.”
The cat was brought to 4Paws where the roll of tape was removed and she has since been returned to her feral colony.
Brits explained that ferals are not able to be adopted as they cannot be tamed once they are adults.
She said, “The best thing for feral cats is to have them sterilised and to feed them.”
The second case that 4Paws responded to was that of a neglected mother dog and her puppies.
Brits said that the shelter was contacted by a concerned member of the public who told them about the dog and her puppies. The animals lived in a scrapyard in Chloorkop.
Brits said, “She had a very deep cut on her stomach, possibly caused by a broken bottle or a sharp piece of metal that could have been lying around the scrapyard.”
The dog and her puppies are now being housed at 4Paws, where the mother dog has been given treatment for her wound. They are in desperate need of good homes.
Brits said, “These are just some of the cases 4Paws responds to. We have lots of animals that we care for and we desperately need donations from the public to keep the shelter going.”
