Diepsloot performers are star bound

DIEPSLOOT - Tsogo Sun's Suncares Arts Academy held the first of their end of the year concerts in Diepsloot.

Vusi Dlamini, group HR director of Tsogo Sun said their arts academy aimed to make a real difference in children’s lives.

The academy’s goal was to develop children’s artistic talent and provide life skills development while supporting the educational framework by creating extra-curricular activities as well as potential tertiary opportunities within the programme.

Suncares Arts Academy end of the year concerts showcase the talents of 480 children from 12 underprivileged schools in Diepsloot and Mayfair.

The first two concerts are held within the communities where the schools are based.

These concerts are attended by adjudicators from the National Eisteddfod Association, who then select the top performers and the best schools to go through to the final concert which will be held at the Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City. The finals culminate in an awards ceremony for the winners in several categories, including top high school, top primary school, best individual performances, most enthusiastic educator and best performing facilitator.

Shanda Paine, Tsogo Sun’s group corporate social initiative manager said by the time the end of the year concerts came round the children were bursting with excitement and anticipation.

She said, “The concerts are inspiring and are remarkable evidence of what can be achieved with a lot of enthusiasm, a desire to work hard, well trained facilitators and a fine tuned curriculum.”
